   JUNIORS: Grades 4-6

Persons in rising grades 4-6 are eligible to attend the Junior Age Classic I and Junior Age Classic II Camps. Photos on this page offer visual images of Junior activities, taken during 2010 camps. Johns River Valley Camp also provides two special programs: (1) a three day introductory Beginners Camp for rising third graders and (2) an Explorer program for rising grades 5 and 6 to experience both the Mainsite and Oupost areas of the camp. Explorers spend three nights in each area, enjoying both Mainsite traditional activities and added opportunities while at the outpost for campfire cooking, plus introduction to canoeing and climbing.

A typical day at a Junior Camp might involve morning theme or Bible studies, crafts and other camp activities. Afternoons direct campers onto the field for games, into the water for tubing or swimming, and continue a rotation for activities like archery and short hikes. Tempo changes after dinner with special activities, games and/or entertainment, vespers, social time (around camp store) and campfire.

Camp activities and games for Junior Campers include tubing, water recreation, archery, hikes, field games, singing, crafts, Bible study, experiential learning activities, and campfire. A day hike along Burnfield Branch provides alternative to the daily routine. The trail exposes campers to remnants of old growth forest, offers a scenic water fall, and allows pause for lunch at a massive rock outcrop know as the "Cave."

JRVC uses a curriculum edited under the title New Earth, Christian Resources for the outdoors. In 2011, with the theme Got Spirit, campers and staff will be invited to find God in the everyday experiences of camp and to learn practices for drawing close to God when returning home, Discovery experiences will include Wonder (Psalm 8, Gratitude (Luke 17:11-19), Hospitality (Luke 24:13-35), Generosity (I Corinthians 12:1-26), Worship (Psalm 96), and Living in Christ's Love (John 15:1-17).
