Connect: Caring for Planet Earth (Grades: 7-12)

May 15-17

Johns River Valley Camp is launching its “Connect” Program for Middle and Senior High youth.  Each year in May we will turn our thoughts to our connections to the Creator, to Creation and to one another.  With minds for justice we will ask in what ways we are connected, what those connections mean and what they require of us?  Brooks Berndt, the UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister, will join us in 2020 as we consider our connection to the Earth and how we might serve as its stewards.

This weekend will concentrate on being good stewards of the Earth and encountering God in Creation. Saturday will include a bike trip on the Virginia Creeper Trail.

Director: Brooks Berndt; the UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister

Johns River Valley Camp is an outdoor ministry site of Southern Conference, United Church of Christ. Grades are rising (Fall 2019) levels.

In 2020, utilizing the curriculum This is Our Prayer, the campers will explore the shared longings of the human heart and all the different ways Christians have prayed throughout history. Through Bible stories and spiritual practices, we’ll discover a deeper connection with God and each other and grow into the beloved community of God, where everyone is invited, loved, and celebrated for who they are. This is our prayer!
